A Snake in the Garden

Hello Loves… Sorry for the hiatus I had to get some things in order for the next couple months. ย but I’ll save that exciting news for the next post…

So if you don’t live under a rock somewhere then you know that tomorrow is Halloween and while I an not really big on the holiday I do have a friend who is really into it and when I asked to borrow her adorable face for a Halloween themed post she happily agreed (its great to have supportive friends) to help me inspire you with an easily last minute costume idea. So without further ado lets get to it shall we?

For this costume we decided to go with Medusa.

If you don’t know who she is Medusa is a Greek woman cursed by Athena for falling in love with Poseidon.
She was turned into a hideous woman with hair turned into snakes.
I feel that Medusa gets a bad wrap because in media because they often forget she was once a beautiful woman who was cursed for following her heart, so we decided to go the soft andย beautiful side.

Here’s how to get the look:

For the makeup we used: MAC Cyber Lipstick, MAC Jades Fortune Eyeshadow, MAC Venetian Tarnish Eyeshadow, and MAC Dark Indulgence Eyeshadow

To get the look of the scales we took some old fishnet stocking and stretched them out over the skin and stippled the different shades of eyeshadow on to create dimension. Then apply a deep shadow on the lids to create depth and smoke it out with a slightly darker shade. On the lips you can go dar with a shade like Cyber or you can soften the look with a nude like like taupe. (For a look like this I say go big or go home.)

To complete the look throw on a few snakes and grab a gown that will unleash your inner goddess. and Voila! you are Medusa the beauty within the beast.

All The Finer Things…

So I’ve noticed that this new caviar nail trend has been emerging everywhere lately. I love the idea of adding some sparkle to my nails. I was a little nervous about taking the plunge into the trend but decided to try it anyway. I figured is i was going to try it I would pick one of the more subtle styles and give it a whirl. I noticed Ciate was one of the companies that offer the most recognized types of the trend. Alas I was not willing to pay excessive amounts of money for nail polish.ย Imagine my surprise when I walked into my local dollar store and found these coveted caviar beads in the nail care section. Iย couldn’tย help it I ended up leaving the store with two packages ๐Ÿ™‚ย So i decided I’d make a tutorial ๐Ÿ™‚

Supplies:
Caviar Beads (Mine are from the local Dollar store)
Nail Polish
Empty Container
Polish Remover

Step 1:ย Apply aย base-coat.

Step 2: Apply your favorite polish.

Step 3: While polish is still wet pour on some of the caviar beads onto the wet nail. Use ย a container underneath the nail to catch overflow.

Step 4: Shape the beads onto the nail, making sure they fit comfortably on theย nail bed.

Step 5: Apply a nice layer of top coat to both the edges and the nail bed to seal the beads onto the nail. Apply top coat to all other nails as well.

Step 6: Clean up all remaining edges with polish remover. Making sure all nails look uniform and wellย polished.

Step 7: Enjoy! Your all done ๐Ÿ™‚

And there you have it easy peasy caviar nails…ย Who says you cant have the finer things in life ๐Ÿ™‚

Makeup Organizer Tutorial

So I thought I’d share my new way of organizing my makeup with everyone today. I love it because it puts everything right there and you can see what you have. I don’t know about you guys but I’m the girl that always ends up buying doubles because its out of sight and out of mind. So this way I can now see what I have and know what I need.

Without Further Ado…

You’ll Need:

  • Cookie/Baking Sheet (mine are from the dollar store)
  • Scrap Fabric enough to cover your pan
  • Magnets (these were purchased from the craft section at Walmart about $3.97 for 50)
  • A paint brush you don’t care about
  • Modge Podge any finish is fine
  • Box Cutter (not shown)
  • Glue Gun (not shown)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Take your clean baking sheet and pour a small amount of Modge Podge onto the pan. Use your brush to spread the Modge Podge all over the pan.
  2. Take you fabric scrap and press it into the pan making sure to get the corners and edges flat. Make sure to push out all air bubbles that will form.
  3. Take a box cutter and use it to cut sides and corners of the fabric so that the fabric sits comfortably in the pan.
  4. Next pour a small amount of Modge Podge on to the fabric in your pan. Paint it again making sure to get corners fully saturated.
  5. While you wait for your pan to dry grab your glue gun and start hot gluing magnets to the back of various makeup items.
  6. Some items may need more than on magnet due to size and weight.

Now that your done start placing them on your pan any way you like. I made two because I love how it looks like an opened compact on the wall. Now you can go from baskets of unorganized makeup to a full display for your makeup making it easier for you to get ready in the morning. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you like the tut.
